One Simple Habit That Will Help You Lose Fat

This is something I do often and advocate many of my clients to do, both for weight loss and just in general to eat better: fill and eat a tupperware (or some form of container) of pre-cut vegetables, roughly 2 cups worth, daily. You can eat it how you wish throughout the day, but I recommend you have 1/2 with lunch and 1/2 as part of supper, or as part of a snack.

How does this help you lose fat?

This isn’t a magic bullet by any means, but by eating a generous portion of vegetables each day, in particular 1/2 with two of your meals, you should consume less calories because the volume of the vegetables should fill you up and make you eat less. This strategy used with a conscious effort to achieve a caloric deficit will help you feel full and you won’t feel like you’re starving at the end of the day; with proper food choices, you can eat in a caloric deficit (~500 per day is the most common) and still feel full from the food you eat.

What vegetables work best for this?

Here’s a few I use, and suggest to my clients:

  • Mini carrots
  • Snap Peas
  • Sliced Bell Peppers (any color will do, I personally prefer yellow or red as they are sweeter)
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Brocoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Cherry Tomatoes

What about Dip?

I find I don’t need dip, but as long as you use a proper portion size (like 2 Tbsp., think 2 thumb sizes worth) you should be fine. Also, hummus might be a better alternative to something like ranch dressing.

You don’t have to limit yourself to the vegetables I listed above, feel free to get creative and put whatever vegetables you like in your tupperware – just don’t fool yourself and fill your tupperware with a baked potato.

I like this strategy because it’s simple and easy to do. If you say you don’t have time to do this, then you’re kidding yourself. You can buy pre-cut options like Snap Peas and Carrots, and simply put them in a tupperware the night before or on your way out in the morning.

Do this daily for 2 weeks consistently and i’d be surprised if you don’t unconsciously eat less, and end up losing some fat in the process – not to mention eat a lot better, which will likely have a snowball effect for other healthy habits in your life.

Hope this strategy helps for some of you.

Till next time,

-Mike
